Happy New Year to All

Hi All,

It is New Year's Eve already! We returned yesterday from our trip to TN to visit Mom & Dad, then to KY to see the Creation Museum.

Well worth the trip if you ever get to Hebron, KY (next to Cincinatti, OH). Also discovered a really nice local seafood restaurant on Sunday evening...called Mr. Herb's....decor wasn't much, but the food was fabulous.

The new computer is finally up and running...while tranfering files, I found this photo of Kaden, JR and Jen's little one. That was his trick or treat costume.

If you have a chance to cruise www.suppliesforhunting.com in the next few days, you will find updated sales and new pricing---some actually lower!

Drive safe and pray for a good 2009.

Today begins the Twelve Days of Christmas!

Hi All-

It is December 13, Saturday, the beginning of the Twelve Days of Christmas. We shipped boxes to New York and Arizona this morning. Still have some wrapping and shopping to do, though.

Like most folks, I need the next paycheck in order to finish:). I promised you a photo of the turkey in the tree in our backyard on Thanksgiving day! Here it is at last....fresh out of the deep fryer! Our son-in-law did the frying and wanted to let the oil drip off before putting the bird on the platter, so he hung it in the tree. Wonder what Jeff Foxworthy would say about that photo?

We are planning a drive into Tennessee and Kentucky between Christmas and New Years. Happy Anniversary on Jan 1, 2009 for Alison and Rusty. Hope your second year is even better than the first.

"On the first day of Christmas, my family gave to me, a fried turkey in a plum tree!"

I'll give you the next line tomorrow. Don't forget to attend the church of your choice on Sunday.

Merry Christmas from all,

Tuesday the 9th and the Furnace is Broken!

Hi All-

Another day at the homestead! Aren't we glad that it is 68 degrees in South Carolina right now....the 30 year old gas pack quit the other day.

We spent Saturday, Sunday and Monday night at our daughter's house sharing the warmth with the newlyweds, two cats and a min pin.

Paid our board by cooking!

I still can't find the photo of the turkey in the tree in the backyard, though. Darn kids are so undependable when it comes to technology.

It's only 16 days till Christmas and we still have packages to mail/and recieve. LOVE THAT INTERNET SHOPPING!

Hopefully by next post, we will have a nice fat deer in the freezer. Our favorite recipe involves marinating in red wine and rosemary, the venison that is, not the cook :)

Merry Christmas to All

Rainy Day After Black Friday

Greetings-

It is a rainy Saturday, day after Black Friday in South Carolina. As soon as my daughter forwards it to me, you have to see the photo of the turkey in the tree in our back yard! I know, it's not turkey season, so we didn't shoot it, but a great photo.

In the spirit of a true homesteader, my son hunts every spare moment. He got two eight point bucks this month, the largest was 220 pounds. The photo is posted above. Now he is after a doe for Deer Mama's (me) freezer!

I am the eldest of thirteen children raised all over from NY to Alberta, CA to TN. Some of our homesteading and survival stories sound pretty funny now.

When I was 8 or so, we lived in a tenant house on a farm in TN. There weren't enough pairs of shoes to go around, so when anyone was allowed the rare treat of riding with Pop into town, we had to negotiate whose turn it was to wear the shoes so that you could get out of the car. (I think it was a '50 something DeSoto?). The loser of the negotiation could ride, but had to stay in the car.

Wow, I have so much to be thankful for now. All twelve siblings alive and well, and we all (I think) have running water and indoor plumbing:)

More later.

Happy Hunting
